Lakes

Dark-blue lakes on the mountains, swimming lakes in the
valleys – sailors, surfers and swimmers who prefer nature to
outdoor swimming pools will find a lot of opportunities to
enjoy nature during their holiday in South Tyrol. This
Italian province is the home of more than 175 natural lakes of
which most of them are situated on an altitude of 2000 meters
above sea level. Only 3 of the lakes are located below 1000
meters: the big and the small Montiggl lakes as well as
the Caldaro lake which is one of the warmest swimming
lakes in the entire Alpine region. With water temperatures of up
to 28° Celsius it is a very popular travel destination during
the summer months – an ideal place to relax, swim and sail in
the sun. In those places where swimming is the main activity
during summer fun on the ice is guaranteed during the
winter months. When temperatures drop and lakes freeze
ice-skating fans will be thrilled. South Tyrol offers good fun
for everyone on ice-skates.
