Tradition in South Tyrol

Just like it has been for a long time ancient customs and traditions are still being cultivated by South Tyrol’s population. For the visitors it is possible to experience at close range religious traditions as well as other ancient customs which differ from village to village. Many interested people take part in the Sacred Heart celebrations which are being held everywhere in this region. A tradition that had its beginning during the time of the Tyrolean fights for independence. Therefore Sacred Heart fires which have the shape of crosses, hearts or lettering are annually being lighted. Another inherent part of South Tyrol’s culture are religious processions, traditional handicrafts which still provide jobs to many people, various Easter rites as well as odd traditions like the setting up and the guarding of the so-called „Kirchtagmichl”. It is a straw doll which you might come across when visiting a local festivity during your stay in South Tyrol in Italy. Get to know land and people from a different and new point of view; find out more about rituals which have been passed on from generation to generation and which nowadays still have influence on people’s lives; go on a wondrous journey through culture and history.
